Harmony, Hope & Healing
HHH is a nonprofit in Chicago that uses music to help adults, teens, and children as they heal from traumas associated with homelessness, incarceration, addiction, and isolation.
I’ve worked with HHH since early 2021 in their efforts to both redefine a visual style and rebrand away from their former image. They wanted to transition into the color blue for their branding (a departure from the red that had become their hallmark) and make their brand feel more personable, eye-catching, and easy to engage with.
I decided to implement bold lines and blocks of color to make their materials more eye-catching, and began putting essential information in colored text to make it easier to engage with. In order to make HHH feel more personable, I’ve been diligent in my photo selection, choosing images with people smiling or laughing whenever possible.
As for the color swap, with an already firmly-established identity, I decided the best way to transition their color from red to blue was to use both for a little bit, until blue had become as associated with their brand as red already was. When we finish with this transition period, I’ll do the reverse and gradually reduce the use of red until blue is the only color associated with HHH.
